Israel has never won a medal in the Olympic shooting competition, However that could all change in Beijing this summer if Guy Starik performs to his true potential. The 42-year-old veteran has a long history of success in international competition. His standout achievement came when he claimed the gold medal at the 2005 Belgrade European Championships in his signature event - the 50-meter rifle prone. His previous top performance at a major tournament was a fourth-place finish in the 1998 World Championships. At the Athens Olympics four years ago Starik had been one of the favorites but came home empty-handed, and disappointed after stumbling to 16th place in the qualifying and missing out on the finals.
