Udi Gal and Gidi Kliger

The duo had some anxious moments last month when Kliger failed a drug test after unknowingly taking the banned substance Finasteride in an anti-balding medication he was using.

Anything short of a podium finish will be a bitter disappointment for Gal and Kliger this summer. The duo, which had high hopes ahead of the Athens Games as well, but could only manage a 13th place finish, has consistently claimed medals at World and European championships in recent years and is currently training in Qindao, China, making sure there will be no repeat of the slip-up from four years ago. The team from Tel Aviv claimed silver medals at the European Championships in 2001 and 2005 and won bronze medals at the World Championships in each of the last three years. In their final competition ahead of the Olympics in June, they won a bronze medal at the European Championships. The duo had some anxious moments last month when Kliger failed a drug test after unknowingly taking the banned substance Finasteride in an anti-balding medication he was using. To their relief Kliger escaped with a reprimand and the team's dream of an Olympic medal continues to live on.
