Pearls are a girl's best friend... well, actually it's diamonds, but after the exclusive pearls spa treatment I recently received at the Aroma Spa, I'm thinking I might have a new best friend. I had never been to Gan Yavne before, and on that warm summer afternoon, the drive out there was already relaxing. When we arrived at the villa on the quiet, tree-lined street, I was taken into a room filled with the scent of vanilla and the sounds of peaceful, sleep-inducing music. After introducing herself, the masseuse proceeded to rub an enzymatic body peeling gel made from papayas into my skin and then wrapped me in giant, clear saran wrap and instructed me to lie on the heated bed for 10 minutes, allowing the gel time to digest all my old skin cells. This, she said, would rejuvenate my skin. She then covered me with a fleece blanket and left the room. While I'm not particularly fond of waiting 10 minutes during a treatment while I lie there doing nothing, I did enjoy a nice albeit short nap before the masseuse returned and unwrapped me. After wiping off all the enzymatic gel, she brought over a small bowl filled with a white powder - the opulent crushed pearls, said to condition and moisturize my skin. Mixed with water, the powder became a white paste, which was rubbed into my skin until I looked like a ghost. I was wrapped up again and told to lie for another 10 minutes to allow my skin time to soak up the expensive treat. I fell asleep immediately, and was awakened as the masseuse wiped off the pearl paste with a wet washcloth and began the Swedish massage. Already in a zen state somewhere between asleep and awake, the gentle massage assured there was absolutely no ounce of stress left in my body. When the 80-minute treatment ended, I could barely move from being so relaxed. Dressed in a robe and slippers provided by the spa, I was taken outside to a little patio surrounded by trees and plants and served tea and cake, which was actually delicious. I returned home feeling excellent, and I have to admit, my skin was super soft. The treatment, NIS 430, was the ultimate in luxury, and no woman deserves any less than pearls.
