Last Thursday afternoon I finally decided to try out Cafe Y at Rambam Square in Givatayim.
I drive past this colorful orange-white-and-red place at least twice a day, but never seem to have the time to actually stop for a bite. Always full on weekends, the cafe was rather empty for my late afternoon coffee date with myself. I chose to sit outside at a tall table so as to get a good look at the place. A scan of the other patrons included a few book-wielding solo individuals, parents and teenagers, a few business folk, and a handful of golden-oldies. Or, more simply, the hodgepodge that is Givatayim.
There are three seating areas at Cafe Y - outside there are high and low brown and black wooden tables; and two indoor areas enclosed by large windows. No matter where one sits, the ambiance is homey. And while located at Rambam Square - a relatively main thoroughfare - the cafe does not suffer from noisy traffic. Then again, this suburb of Tel Aviv isn't known for its clamor.
The wait staff is super friendly. According to the Web site rest.co.il , other visitors have highlighted the waiters, giving them a thumbs-up. Unfortunately, the prices are quite high. I ordered just a coffee and croissant, and that little extravagance set me back NIS 24 (at other cafes, I would usually pay NIS 13-18). Overall, Cafe Y is a nice place to sit with friends or alone.
