1. TREE OF LIFE
The star-studded film that has just received the Palme d’Or award at Cannes tells the story of a family in Midwest America in the 1950s. The moving drama follows Jack, an 11-year-old boy, the eldest of three, as he loses his innocence with his first glimpses of sickness, suffering and death.Written and directed by Terrence Malick. Starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain. At selected cinemas around the country.
OPERA
2. ARENA DI VERONA CONCERTS
The renowned orchestra of the Arena di Verona makes its Israel debut at the Opera Festival. Tonight it performs Verdi’s majestic Requiem under the baton of Italian conductor Giuliano Carella with soprano Svetla Vasileva, mezzo-soprano Mariana Pentchava, tenor Stefano Secco and bass Louis- Ottavio Faria, and joined by the Israeli Opera Chorus.

3. VERDI’S ‘JERUSALEM’
A rare delight is Verdi’s opera Jerusalem, at the Sultan’s Pool on Monday. The story starts in France, moves to the city of Ramle and finally reaches Jerusalem, where the Crusaders wait before their battle to capture the city. David Stern, the music director of the Israeli Opera, will lead the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra-IBA, the Israeli Opera Chorus and international soloists including Carlo Colombara, Scott Piper and Roberto Serville in this performance.

4. CHINA IN FAST MOTION
Five contemporary Chinese artists present the dynamism of the video art and the dynamic development of the representational method used to capture the new mobile environment in China today, using video art, animation, ink drawing as well as utilizing modern and traditional iconography. The exhibition is part of the 10th Israeli Asian Studies Conference held in the Hebrew University last month.

FESTIVAL
5. LOVE THE BIBLE
A rich entertainment program with stellar lineup at the Bible and Love Festival at the Beit Guvrin National Park. Din Din Aviv, Etti Ankri and Hemi Rudner will be singing material from the repertoire of the late Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach in The Bible in the Soul. Other attractions include the Hassidic Song Festival featuring veteran performers Miri Aloni, Hanan Yuval, Oshik Levy and Shuli Natan. The main item in the festival program is a tribute to chansonnier-actor Yossi Banai, who died five years ago. The star-studded lineup for the “If We Can Just Love” concert includes actor Moshe Ivgy, singer-songwriters Shlomi Shaban and Corinne Alal, and actors-comics Tiki Dayan, Keren Mor and Menashe Noy.

6. THE GREAT MASS
As every year at Shavuot, Abu Ghosh is probably your best bet for some top-class classical, and other, vocal entertainment.
Concerts will take place at Kiryat Yearim Church and the Crusader Benedictine Church with the program including classical staples Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and Schubert’s Mass in G major, as well as an outdoor singalong with songs written by Naomi Shemer, and a concert of songs based on the poems of Nathan Alterman.

7. WATER AND LIGHT
Go north where you can enjoy wholesome outdoor activities in the Valley of the Springs Festival near Beit She’an. The program includes a guided tour to Naharayim in the Jordan Valley, sound-and-light shows, halla baking and a chance to dress up as the first pioneers who came to the area in the early part of the 20th century.

DANCE
8. INDEPENDENT MOVEMENT
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Israeli Association of Independent Choreographers invites dance lovers to an evening of outdoor performances in the Tel Aviv Port. For three hours, more than 20 choreographers will present their newest works in unusual locations set on the water. Entrance free.
