“The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul” - Dieter F. UchtdorfI always had a strong desire to create, for as long as I can remember. The focus was never so much on what I create, but that I create. May it be through colors, written words, or what ever else seems suitable at the time being. For me, it was always a way of giving way to the inner parts of me, which cannot always be explained or expressed in any logical or grammaticly correct sentence or act.Sometimes we need to look beyond what we think we know, beyond the rules and the borders of what we are thought, in order to find our true meanings.I am always fascinated by the people who dare to follow their inner creative yearnings to the fullest. I believe it is a desire in each one of us, to be wild and free to create and express what our soul and heart can see and feel, but our mind cannot always explain. Maybe our desire to create can guide us in areas where reason and politics is not always enough.A couple of years ago I had the pleasure of getting to know an American-Israeli girl who was then living in Tel Aviv. She was recently part of starting a platform inspired by her Israeli roots and her own passion for art creativity. A platform for creative minds from around the world, who have been inspired by Israel.Their idea is to provide these different artists with a place where they can connect, create, and also sell their handmade art. They named the platform Jouvenir, and on their website they write:“Jouvenir is a platform exposing both emerging and established artists from around the world who have been inspired by Israeli culture. Our mission is to expose the diversity of the Israeli culture and people by sharing stories through art. Jouvenir also encourages creative individuals to believe that it is possible to pursue their dreams in the creative and artistic fields.”In a time and area where conflicts and war are always just around the corner, and media mainly focuses on feeding us with a rather pessimistic picture of the world, it is sometimes uplifting to be reminded of the fact that there are people out there who see beyond politics, conflicts, borders, and media. There are those of us who see also other aspects of the world, which in my own opinion, are at least as important to show and communicate to people as any other. Especially in a country like Israel, where it is so easy to get stuck in focusing on the problems, I think it’s important that we remind ourselves that there are many other aspects to this country, its culture, and its people. Different people from around the world have found something in Israel to be inspired by. What if more people could see what they saw?Now they can – through their creative art.No one person alone can change the world or bring peace to the region of the Middle East. In life, nobody can do everything, but anyone can do something. You may only be able to take a tiny step in the right direction, but if more of us are willing to take that tiny step, together we can make that step bigger.
