1. Saban cinema
At a festive pre-Yom Kippur press conference that took place last Wednesday in Los Angeles, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that it has received a $50 million gift from Cheryl and Haim Saban for the organization’s long-planned film museum in Los Angeles. The museum will provide visitors with a glimpse behind the scenes of the film industry, and its collections will include original and rare costumes and accessories, special sound bites as well as millions of images. The exhibition will take visitors through the history of moviemaking, from the 19th century to the present and beyond with a combination of moving images, objects and constructed environments. The Sabans donated the largest amount to the project, and the old May Company Building, which will be annexed to the museum, will be renamed the Saban Building.
Attending were Bob Eiger, chairman and CEO of Disney; actors Tom Hanks and Annette Bening; heads of the American Film Academy; and the mayor of Los Angeles.
2. Gesher Theater
The Gesher Theater recently held its annual gala event at the home of Friends of the Gesher Theater chairman Israel Makov and Bella Lustig in moshav Carmei Yosef where they celebrated a double birthday.
Both the State of Israel and the theater’s artistic director Yevgeny Arye turned 70.
Makov, Lustig and Arye welcomed guests to the event, including the director of the Friends Association Ruti Heilpern, chairman Eli Zohar, theater CEO Lena Krindlein, actors and producers.
3. Mediterranean Towers
The Mediterranean Towers’ Golden Years Championship took place last week at the Tel Aviv Sportek. Over two thousand men and women over the age of 65 from all over the country competed in the only Olympic and non-Olympic sports competition for this age category in Israel. Attending with high spirits were chairman of Mediterranean Towers Yair Seroussi, CEO of Mediterranean Towers Doron Arnon, owner of Mediterranean Towers Moti Kirschenbaum, and Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein.
4. Larger than Life
Larger than Life, a non-profit which aims to improve the quality of life of children and teens in Israel with cancer by providing enjoyable, empowering activities, aired its annual televised fundraising campaign on Channel 2.
Over NIS 8 was raised during the campaign, which was moderated by Guy Zuaretz and Yael Bar-Zohar. Watching the campaign were Yossi and Michal Moldawsky and their daughter; Ofer Yanko, CEO of Neviot; and Claude Breitman.
5. Tal Center
The Tal Center for Integrative Oncology recently held a fundraising evening at the home of Mati and Maccabi Carasso at their home in moshav Bnei Tzion. The Tal Center provides complementary treatments for cancer patients and promotes activity carried out in the field of integrative oncology in Israel. It also created Halasartan, a new digital space for young cancer patients, aged 18-45, which is supported by MSD. The event was organized by Zohar and Yankale Yakobson, founders of the Tal Center who lost their daughter, Tal, to cancer, Shira Kaufman, CEO of the center, and Tsofit Grant, who moderated the evening.
