Pertinent details
While citing criticism of Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer in “The undiplomatic envoy” (March 9), Martin Sieff introduced one such critic, Charles W. Freeman, to readers by describing him as a “respected member of the Washington foreign-policy establishment.
However, Sieff omitted a few pertinent details about the “veteran diplomat.” Not only is Freeman viscerally hostile to Israel, but upon withdrawing from consideration for the job of Chair of the National Intelligence Council, he all but accused American supporters of Israel of dual loyalty in decrying their efforts to enforce “adherence to the policies of a foreign government.” Further, in a post published in the anti-Zionist blog Mondoweiss in 2010, Freeman implicitly justified global anti-Semitism, characterizing it as merely the inevitable response to Jewish support for Israel’s “apartheid” policies.

Jew hatred
Commenting on the latest European jihadi murders in “Danish ironies” (March 9), Vivian Jack finds it “impossible to comprehend” the attack on a Jewish institution. “Is [the murderer] implying that the Jews of Denmark are responsible for the satirical cartoons drawn by Christian Danes and published by secular Danish newspapers?” Well, yes! Read Matthias Kuntzel’s scholarly “Jihad and Jew-Hatred,” which documents the history of anti-Semitism in the ideologies of Islamist groups from World War II to the present.
Jihadi groups are not seeking to liberate the individual from state oppression like the French and American revolutions; they are fascists of the “national socialist” stripe with the goal of universal Islamist rule. Jews, who historically cherish the right to be different, who fight for the rights of individuals and divergent minorities, and who therefore in the jihadist view are the center of Western culture, are a crucial target.

House acquisitions
In his letter (March 9) Jack Arbiser notes that no one describes the acquisition of properties in French Hill by Arab families as “provocative,” whereas Yehudit Oppenheimer is quoted as saying, “All presence of settlers is provocative.”
To the best of my knowledge, the Arab acquisitions have been made by high-income families who are seeking to improve their quality of life by moving into better neighborhoods, which indeed were originally entirely Jewish. They were not backed by obscure Arab financiers.
On the other hand, virtually all the acquisitions made by Jews in East Jerusalem have been funded by Jewish backers such as Irving Moskowitz, who are clearly devoted to relocate as many Jews as possible to East Jerusalem so as to prevent its return to Arab sovereignty.

Battling Islamic terror
Thanks for highlighting the work of dynamic lawyer Nitsana Darshan-Leitner and her organization Shurat HaDin in “Battling Islamic terror in the courts” (February 23).
We participated in a Shurat HaDin mission to Israel in November 2014 and want to encourage your readers to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to see behind-the scenes military and political sites, and hear outstanding lecturers discuss the many aspects of the dangers facing Israel today.

As I am now reading Gail Hareven’s “Lies, First Person,” I found David Stromberg’s article “A drive for justice” (February 9) to be of much interest.
However, Hareven is quoted as reporting that she has been “teaching for a semester at the University of Chicago in Champagne- Urbana...” But if she did teach in Champaign- Urbana (note the correct spelling), she was not teaching at the University of Chicago.
She was actually teaching at the University of Illinois (UIUC), whose main campus has been in Urbana for about 100 years. The University of Chicago is a wonderful university but its campus is located in Chicago, not in Champaign-Urbana.
