New documentary claims Hitler's wife may have been Jewish
Hair samples taken from Eva Braun's hairbrush contain a DNA sequence "strongly associated" with Ashkenazi Jews, according to scientists.

Adolf Hitler’s wife, Eva Braun, may have had Jewish roots, according to DNA analysis carried out for a British television documentary.The documentary series, Dead Famous DNA, produced by the UK’s independent Channel 4, explores famous and infamous historical figures through cutting edge DNA technology.The episode to be aired on Wednesday features genetic findings related to Braun that imply the Nazi leader committed to exterminating European Jewry was romantically involved with a woman of Jewish ancestry, AFP reported.Scientists commissioned by the show’s producers found a DNA sequence passed down through her maternal line – haplogroup N1b1 – that they said was “strongly associated” with Ashkenazi Jews, AFP reported.The DNA was taken from Braun’s hair samples from a brush used by Braun and found at Hitler’s mountain retreat by a US army captain.“This is a thought-provoking outcome – I never dreamt that I would find such a potentially extraordinary and profound result,” presenter Mark Evans was quoted as saying.After a relationship that lasted more than a decade, Braun and the Nazi leader married shortly before committing joint suicide in a Berlin bunker in 1945.
