Passengers on EgyptAir flight 610 from Cairo to Kuwait on Monday must have been rattled when their plane was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger was bit by a snake.
The victim, described as a Jordanian who owns a shop selling reptiles, had apparently concealed the snake in his hand luggage in order to sneak it on board the flight, Egyptian daily al-Masry al-Youm reported.
The flight crew, unaware that a snake was on board, was shocked by the man's screams and asked the pilot to make an emergency landing.
The plane landed at Hurghada Airport on Egypt's Red Sea coast, where the man refused medical treatment, claiming his wound was only superficial, the report said. The plane resumed its flight to Kuwait, after local authorities confiscated the snake.
EgyptAir said on Tuesday that it was conducting an investigation into the incident.
