About 4,500 pills suspected of being counterfeit erectile-dysfunction and diet medications were intercepted at the Allenby Bridge crossing to Jordan by the Customs Authority over the weekend. The suspected smugglers had attempted to bring in the 4,000 apparently fake Cialis pills and 500 diet pills forbidden for use by the Health Ministry. The pills were found in the suitcases of a Palestinian Authority resident and wrapped up in jeans among his other clothes.The Customs Authority said the suspect was returning from a visit to Jordan. When they were found by customs officials, the man said the pills were not meant for his own use.RELATED:Int'l campaign leads to seizure of 14,000 illegal pills Drug investigators were called in immediately to question the man, who admitted his involvement.The authorities said that during 2011, more than 60,000 diet pills and 165,000 counterfeit anti-impotence pills have been caught at the bridge in smuggling attempts by Palestinians. Some of them were very cleverly hidden in suitcases and brought in by emissaries of criminals.The authorities said that if they had reached the market, they would have endangered the health of both Israelis and Palestinians.
