Israel’s national rugby team claimed its 12th consecutive win yesterday afternoon, defeating Hungary 23-14 at the Wingate Institute in Netanya to get its European Nations Cup campaign off to a triumphant start.
The blue-and-white, who advanced to the FIRA-AER Division 3B for the first time in its history in April, trailed 11-10 at the break, but fought back in the second half to record an impressive victory over the superiorly ranked Hungarians (No. 67 in the International Rugby Board rankings). Israel (74th in the world) hosts Austria in its next game on April 9, 2011, and will also face Denmark and Norway in Group 2C of the Nations Cup.
