Two thousand new hotel and tourism industry jobs were on offer on Tuesday, at the opening of the annual International Mediterranean Tourism Market exhibition in Tel Aviv.The two-day event includes exhibits by more than 150 Israeli and foreign tourism operators showcasing attractions in Israel and dozens of other countries.This year’s event included a national tourism employment fair as well as a prominent showing of tourist booths from Eastern Europe countries not in the Euro zone, countries where the shekel can go a long way. These included less familiar destinations for Israelis, such as Latvia, Uzbekistan and Slovenia, which stood next to old standards like Greece, Cyprus and India.The event was launched a day before the cancellation of visa requirements for Israelis visiting Ukraine, and vice versa.The agreement was signed six months ago, and goes into effect on Wednesday.The Tourism Ministry has announced that the visa cancellation will increase, by around 40 percent, the number of Israelis visiting Ukraine.The cancellation of the visa requirement will mainly benefit two constituencies here, Ukrainian-Israelis visiting relatives in Ukraine, and religious Jews making the yearly pilgrimage to Uman, the burial place of Rabbi Nachman (1772-1810), the founder of the Breslov Hassidic sect.
