Frisch demonstrates that without communication, mutual respect and mercy, society and the self easily self-destruct.

The gutsy little Simta Theater in Jaffa often takes on drama that isn't necessarily well-known or a crowd pleaser. This time it's The Great Fury of Philipp Hotz, by eminent Swiss playwright Max Frisch (1911-'91), directed by the award-winning Aya Kaplan.
Hotz, a professor of philosophy, gets really, really mad at his wife. He locks her in the clothes closet, decides to join the Foreign Legion and hires a couple of guys to trash the house. Through his fable, Frisch demonstrates that without communication, mutual respect and mercy, society and the self easily self-destruct. Previews start at Simta on November 26.
