Rapper Subliminal is one of many entertainers who has headed south to cheer up communities under fire.

WHETHER THEY served in the army or not, during war, entertainers give of themselves unstintingly to boost the spirits of both IDF troops and people confined to bomb shelters. Some of them take the initiative themselves, while others respond to calls from the military, various municipalities and/or non-profit organizations. YES has recruited Ran Danker, Roi Bar Natan and Shai Peled to tour bomb shelters in the south of the country to bring cheer to those people who are spending most of their time underground. The first of these tours begins Sunday at 12:15 p.m. in Beersheba.
  • EVEN BEFORE this initiative was taken by YES, members of the Sports Channel spread some cheer in Ashdod where they were given an enthusiastic welcome. The sports commentators included Eli Ildis, Danny Inbar and Yonatan Cohen.
  • KOBI SHIMONI, better known by his stage name of Subliminal, has also been busy running around to communities in the South to join other entertainers in distracting the population from thoughts of yet another rocket attack. When the popular rapper went to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon to cheer up some of the youngsters in the children's ward, he bumped into Big Brother celeb Yossi Bublil and told him enthusiastically that because of a remark Bublil had made on the show, Shimoni decided to record a new version of "Tizaher Mimena" (Be careful of her). He also presented Bublil with a CD that included the Big Brother theme song. Bublil missed out on making a million shekels, but the compensation prize of a CD from the master made him quite happy.
  • JAZZ TRUMPETER Joe Magnarelli, who is one of the most in-demand trumpet players in New York, is coming to Israel to appear in the Givatayim Theater's Jazz Uptown Downtown series. He will be giving a tribute concert to Duke Ellington with Israeli group The Swing Makers on backup. The performance is scheduled for Friday, January 16 at 10 p.m. Magnarelli, who has been playing the trumpet since age 12, is a very well known figure on the Manhattan jazz scene and has participated in recordings of more than a hundred jazz albums.
  • JCS CHOSE the High Windows Club as the venue in which to celebrate the completion of the second season of Haborer (The Arbitrator) and brought together the whole cast and production crew. Segments of the new series of the show were screened for the cast and crew before they were shown to the viewing public. JCS Productions Chief Saar Yogev announced that shooting for the third season would begin soon. Among those present was the multi-talented Reshef Levi, who arrived with his daughter - one of the youngest of his many children - who caught the eye of every photographer in the room.
  • FANS OF the stars of Masachim (Masks) who want to make contact with their favorites, such as Ania Buckstein, Ran Danker, Maya Maron or Neta Gerti, can now do so through the YES-Walla Web site using the popular ooVoo video conference program. The system was launched toward the end of last week.
