A new play about youth violence and murder, Chaim Idisis' "The Color of the Pearl" will make its debut this Saturday November 19 at the Mediatheque Theater in Holon. "Pearl", set to run at the youth theater and based on a book by Anna Maria Yukal, touches on alarming yet timely themes such as youth violence and knife culture at schools. Itzik Weingarten directs and Tomer Ilan stars. In today's society, skirmishes between teens in clubs and at schools often involve drawing knifes, many times ending with senseless death. "Pearl" chronicles the rise to power of a rejected and immoral 9th grader over his high school class. He turns into a respected, uncontested leader and successfully nurtures hatred that leads to extreme circumstances. The play addresses the questions of how far a teen is willing to go in order to be accepted by his peers and how all this leads to the unsheathing of a knife and the death of innocents.
