Three weeks after making its debut in homes around the world, Al-Jazeera's English-language channel will enter the Israeli airwaves. Israeli TV provider YES has completed a deal that will allow subscribers to watch Al-Jazeera in English starting December 5. YES's main Israeli competitor, HOT Television, may also begin airing Al-Jazeera in English in the coming weeks.
Broadcast from newsrooms in Doha, London, Kuala Lampur and Washington, D.C., Al-Jazeera's English-language channel now reaches more than 80 million homes worldwide. A counterpart to the original Arabic-language Al-Jazeera news channel, the English-language channel was the subject of much speculation before its debut, with commentators debating the extent to which the channel might share what critics said were its parent channel's anti-American and anti-Israeli biases.
Al-Jazeera's Arabic-language channel is already available in Israel as part of the HOT and YES cable packages.
