The International Woman's Festival taking place in Holon from March 4-8 will indeed take on an international flavor this year thanks to special guest Marianne Faithful.
The 61-year-old British singer and actress, who has appeared here a number of times in the past, will be performing with her band on March 7 at the Holon Theater in a show entitled "Songs of Innocence and Experience."
Since making headlines over 40 years ago as Mick Jagger's girlfriend and a pop star in her own right with her version of The Rolling Stones' "As Tears Go By," Faithful has enjoyed a diverse, unconventional singing and acting career.
With her 70s and 80s albums Broken English and Strange Weather, Faithful established herself as an alternative pop icon, a status confirmed by the participation of such rockers as Billy Corgan, PJ Harvey and Nick Cave on her albums in this decade. Her last album was 2005's Before the Poison.
Faithful's acting career has been as quirky as her musical journeys.
She was featured as Empress Maria-Theresa in Sofia Coppola's 2006 biopic Marie-Antoinette. Her most recent work is in the film Irina Palm, released at the Berlin Film Festival in 2007, for which she was nominated by the European Film Academy in the Best Actress category.
Faithful was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, but following treatment she resumed her career in earnest, with a new album due this year.
