Prolific artist and DJ extraordinaire Vadim shakes up Tel Aviv's The Block for a long, fun night.

A few months back some friends gave me a heads up regarding the Soul Revival line at The Block. I had first visited this club, which makes it a point to bring a bit of New York style to Tel Aviv, for a massive City4All party. And, while the more conservative incumbent for Tel Aviv mayor trounced the leftists, it was not for a lack of cool and crowds.
Now that The Block is holding the next installment in the Revival line, this time with the theme of funk, they've put together a line-up not to be missed. DJ Vadim arrives, not for the first time to these parts, for a set that should be expected to "kick-ass," as they say in the parlance of our times.
The St. Petersburg born and London raised DJ does not know the meaning of the word sleep, according to his website. Rather, not unlike the Energizer Bunny but less of a corporate shill, he is a producer, DJ, promoter, record collector, radio presenter, occasional painter, writer and a Latin Grammy nominee for his work with the Spanish hip hop super group, 7 Notes 7 Colorez.
Additionally and aside from having performed all over the world - but really all over - he has released an impressive catalog on his own label Jazz Fudge, which he founded in 1995, on Ninja Tune, BBE and others. Just to impress upon you the talent of he who performs this evening, DJ Vadim has also performed with The Roots, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Public Enemy and Sly and the Family Stone to name a few. Yeah. This guy's good.
Also performing the same night is The Smilan Brothers - an amalgam of local musicians from Zvuloon Dub System, The Apples, Zon-D and Hoodska Explosive. So be there or be elsewhere.
Funk Revival begins at 11:30 p.m. at The Block (35 David Hachmi St., Tel Aviv). Tickets are NIS 60-70.
