Cinemetheque retracts claims star planned J'lem festival visit.

The Jerusalem Cinematheque, which is currently in the midst of running its annual Jerusalem Film Festival this week in the capital, released a statement Saturday evening saying that comments made last week regarding the possibility of Dustin Hoffman attending the event were infact misleading and incorrect.“Dustin Hoffman was among the guests the Jerusalem Film Center had hoped to welcome to this year's film festival, however our aspirations never reached the level of direct discussion with his office nor, at any point was there confirmation he would be available to attend,” Cinematheque Associate Director, Yigal Molad Hayo wrote in the statement, adding that his original comments had been “misleading” and exaggerated.RELATED:Hollywood stars snub film festival“They were magnified,” he wrote about the original comments that implied an agreement with Hoffman to come to the festival had almost been reached but were changed after the May 31 flotilla incident. “It was falsely assumed that his [Dustin Hoffmans] office made such a commitment and then reversed this decision… and it was speculated that Mr. Hoffman withdrew for reasons related to recent political events in Israel.”Molad Hayo asked that the “misleading claim be completely retracted.”After the original article appeared in the Jerusalem Post on Wednesday, a publicist for the Jewish actor vehemently denied that any contact had been made between the Hollywood actor and the film festival. She said clearly that her client had never planned on attending the event.
