Who I am doesn’t matter. What I stand for and what I stand against does. In the book of Esther in the Bible, we are told of a man of courage and conviction whose name was Mordecai. The king of the empire for whom Mordecai worked had promoted a godless greedy hateful man called Haman to a position close to what we would call vice president in our government today. Along with the promotion the king gave a commandment punishable by death for refusing to obey the king’s commandment. He commanded that all his servants bow and do reverence before Haman. Not a hard or inappropriate request for a man in his position in the Persian Empire at this time in history. And all the servants did as the king commanded without hesitation all except one, Mordecai!
Mordecai knew who this man was and what he represented. That he was an enemy of G-d and Mordecai protested and refused to obey the command of the king even if it meant death. Haman was told of Mordecai’s refusal to do him reverence. Haman was incensed at the impudence of this Jew whom this man hated as well as hating his G-d. But it wasn’t enough just to have Mordecai killed he wanted every Jew killed because of his hatred for them as a people and the G-d they stood for. So Haman devised a plan to destroy all those with like beliefs as Mordecai. He planned to kill all of the Jews throughout the whole realm of Persian control form India to Ethiopia.
Hitler was not the first to try to commit genocide of the Jewish people and he will not be the last as we see today from just about every Muslim nation in the world who longs for the destruction and annihilation of Israel.
The people of the Persian Empire were perplexed, stunned at the decree of genocide while the king is overjoyed over the expectation of receiving, in today’s currency, the equivalence of 3 Billion dollars in return for the killing of the Jews from the booty of those killed.
Esther the Queen whom Mordecai had raised as his daughter who is also a Jew knows of what Mordecai is doing and tries to get him to give up his march in sackcloth to the king’s gate by sending him a change of clothes. This is like many Christians today who believe that we need to work with the government because the Bible tells us to obey them. The Bible also tells of the G-d given responsibilities that the governments are required to follow. If a government forsakes the G-d given rules of governance stated in the Bible then we as a people are no longer held accountable to following or obeying said government. Mordecai refused to stand down and told Esther that it was she that could make the difference in the saving of her people by her breaking the law. There was a law that no one could come before the king uncalled for or that person male or female could be killed on the spot unless the king held out his golden scepter of pardon to that person. Esther was afraid that she might die because the king hadn’t called for her in a month. Mordecai basically told Esther to not just think of herself that she and her family lineage would face death if she did nothing. And Mordecai said to Esther the Queen who knows whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this. He says all of G-d’s blessings of becoming Queen and the life of wealth and prestige may have been for just this moment when you need to stand for what is right. And today I say that perhaps we Christians are in America here and now for such a time as this. To take the stand of Mordecai and not only humble ourselves and repent and pray but to protest before the king to protest the ungodly rulings of our government and to stand like Mordecai even unto death. That is what our forefathers did when they went up against the most powerful army in the world and said we will be free from tyranny. They fought and they prayed they prayed and they fought and with reliance upon G-d they won the victory. I say to you today we are being put again under tyranny by our own government and it may be such a time as this that we need to come together and stand for G-d to stand for what is right to stand together. For our forefathers gave their blood and their lives for freedom. Freedom not so we could do what we want but freedom so we could do what we ought by G-d’s divine leading and Grace. Mordecai’s message to Esther aroused in her the courage inside of her and she replied to Mordecai pray and fast for me and I will disobey the law and go before the king and if I perish I perish. Oh the Stand of Mordecai has now become the stand of Esther. You see when people see and realize that they must stand for that which is Godly even unto death that courage becomes infectious and spreads from one person to another to another. That is what brought us victory over tyranny in our Revolution and it is what can bring us victory in our nation now if we are willing to come together and to just take that first step out of our comfort zone beyond prayer and fasting and take a stand and march in protest of the king’s commandments which go against all that is Godly and right.
Join me in taking The Stand of Mordecai. It may cost us! But nothing of value comes without a cost.
Man’s salvation comes at a cost. Oh what a cost.
In the book of Ephesians we are told of the battle we have with the devil and his evil henchmen we are told that before we can do battle we must put on the Armor of G-d. Then we are told numerous times to Stand. Ephesians 6:14 says: Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; Oh we need to stand in truth and righteousness we need to stand for truth and righteousness. 1 Corinthians 16:13 says: Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. The word quit means to be courageous. We need to be courageous and stand. Let us stand like Mordecai. Let us stand like Esther. Let us stand like our forefathers. Let us stand like the millions who through the years have taken the stand for what is right and Godly.
Let us take The Stand of Mordecai.
