At least 40 Palestinians were injured Thursday afternoon, several of them seriously, in gas explosion in a Gaza restaurant. Medical authorities reported that the blast occurred a few hours before Iftar, the daily meal marking the end of the Ramadan fast, in a restaurant located in an open market in Jabalya, a northern Gaza refugee camp. Eyewitnesses reported that most of the injured were residents that were gathered to stock up on food to take home for the festive meal. The casualties, including several believed to be critically wounded, were evacuated to hospitals in the Gaza Strip. Hamas police said that the explosion was triggered by a gas leak.
