Abbas: Egypt is the backbone of Palestinian aspirations

As Hamas representatives were reportedly meeting with Egyptian authorities in Cairo Tuesday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas reiterated the importance of Egypt's role in Palestinian aspirations for statehood.
In a meeting with Egyptian Ambassador to the PA Yasser Othman, Abbas said, "Egypt is the backbone of our people's aspirations toward having an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital," official Palestinian Authority news agency WAFA reported.
Abbas also discussed efforts at Fatah reconciliation with Hamas with the Egyptian diplomat.
