A 49-year-old alleged pedophile from northern Israel was indicted in the Petah Tikva District Court on Sunday, following a police sting operation in which officers posed as girls between the ages of 12 and 13.

The suspect chatted on the Internet and had several phone conversations with a police officer posing as a 12-year-old girl and arranged a tryst with her. After the man arrived at the address that the officer sent him, he was arrested. He is accused of attempted statutory rape and sexual harassment of a minor under the age of 15.

The indictment is part of the largest sting operation against sex offenders in Israeli history.  In late July, 30 alleged pedophiles were arrested.
