Barak: Outpost demolition had nothing to do with US pressure

Defense Minister and Labor chair Ehud Barak referred to the demolition of an illegal outpost in the West Bank on Thursday, saying "there is absolutely no connection to the US or to pressure from the US." "I clarified also to settlement leaders, and I repeat what I always say, that evacuating unauthorized settlements, particularly on private Palestinian land, is the obligation of Israeli society to itself," he said. Civil Administration and police forces demolished the minor outpost, Maoz Esther, on Thursday monrning, three days after US President Barack Obama told visiting Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that he must call a halt to settlement activity.
