Boy missing, feared drowned in waters off Bat Yam

The search continued Saturday night for a 10-year-old boy who disappeared in the waters off a Bat Yam beach and is feared drowned.

In the mid-afternoon on Saturday, Tel Aviv police said that they had received a call about a 10-year-old boy who was part of a group that went swimming next to Calderon beach in Bat Yam. The other swimmers came back out of the water but the boy was nowhere to be found, police said.

Since the boy went missing, police have searched the waters off the beach and surrounding area, as well as the area near the wave breakers, where they said he was last seen. Police and IDF helicopters also took part in the search.

By nightfall police said they had called off the search at sea because of the stormy weather. They said that overnight the search will continue up and down the beach and that in the morning they will begin searching again at sea.
