Astronomers announced the discovery of the first known solid planet outside the solar system on Wednesday morning. The announcement came during an international conference in Barcelona. Among the astronomers involved in the finding was Prof. Zvi Mazeh of Tel Aviv University. Scientists had already identified some 300 extrasolar planets, but these were all believed to be gas balls, making the discovery of a solid planet a milestone in the field of astronomy.
