Dan Stein, 71 was the first victim to be named in Saturday's mass shooting at Congregation Tree of Life in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Stein was one of the 11 victims who were shot dead during Shabbat services in the synagogue in Squirrel Hill, a city neighborhood with more than 50,00 Jewish residents.
Family members told the newspaper on Saturday that Stein will be remembered as a kind soul willing to lend a hand.
A resident of Squirrel Hill, Stein once served as president of the New Light Congregation which holds services at Tree of Life Congregation.
“He was always willing to help anybody,” his nephew, Steven Halle, told the newspaper. “He was somebody that everybody liked, very dry sense of humor and recently had a grandson who loved him.”

“He was very active and he did everything,” Halle added. “He was there every Saturday for services.”

The full list of victim names is expected to be announced at 3 p.m. Israel time on Sunday.
