Former IDF command head praises report that terrorist Samir Kuntar killed in IDF strike

The former head of the IDF's Northern Command, and current Zionist Union MK Maj. Gen. (res.) Eyal Ben-Reuven praised the Syrian reports that Israel killed Lebanese militant leader Samir Kuntar when a number of rockets hit a building in the Damascus district of Jaramana in the early hours on Sunday.

"IDF officials, Intelligence, the Air Force and others should be commended for, according to foreign sources, killing Samir Kuntar this morning and another top-ranking Hezbollah official," Ben-Reuven said. "Kuntar was a murderer who killed the Haran family in cold blood."

Kuntar was imprisoned after he and three others from the Palestine Liberation Front infiltrated Nahariya by sea in April 1979 and broke into the apartment of the Haran family, where they kidnapped the father, Danny, and his four-year-old daughter Einat. They brought the pair back to the beach and killed them. Haran's other daughters, Yael, age two, was accidentally smothered to death as she and her mother, Smadar, hid from the terrorists in the apartment's crawl space.

After he was released in the 2008 Regev-Goldwasser prisoner exchange, he continued to be active in Hezbollah while he simultaneously created an anti-Israel terror network in the Syrian Golan Heights.

"To my knowledge, there is no doubt that the IDF is preparing itself for a response from Hezbollah, but that a response would be measured and not done to take over control of the region," he added.
