Egypt State TV identified the hijacker of the EgyptAir plane, that landed in Cyprus on Tuesday, as Ibrahim Samaha, a man in his late twenties. Samaha is an Egyptian citizen pan-Arab daily Asharq al Awsat reported. According to a Sky News report, Samaha has asked for a translator and political asylum. Egyptian state news agency MENA said that the hijacker was sitting on seat K38 and gave no further details.
