Hizbullah threatens to resign from Lebanese government

BEIRUT— Hizbullah and its allies plan to resign from the Lebanese Cabinet, which would topple the unity government, a senior official said Wednesday.

The decision by the Iranian-backed militant group is linked to tensions stemming from the international tribunal investigating the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Hizbullah members are expected to be indicted by the tribunal soon.

An official allied with Hizbullah said the group's ministers and their allies will resign from the government unless the Western-backed prime minister, Sa'ad Hariri, agrees to their demand for an urgent Cabinet meeting to talk about the tribunal crisis.
