IAEA: Japan engineers lay power cable to nuclear unit

VIENNA - Japan has told the UN nuclear watchdog that engineers were able to lay an external grid power cable to the No.2 unit of the disaster-hit Fukushima nuclear power plant, the Vienna-based agency said on Thursday.
"They plan to reconnect power to unit 2 once the spraying of water on the unit 3 reactor building is completed," the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in a statement.
It said spraying of the No.3 unit was temporarily stopped at 1109 GMT.
Workers in Japan have been trying on Thursday to connect a 1-km (0.6-mile) long power cable from the main grid to restart water pumps to cool reactor No. 2.
