Head of the Israeli Bar Association Doron Barzilai on Wednesday called on Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein to assemble an independent investigative body to look into the state prosecutor's actions against former prime minister Ehud Olmert.

"As the head of the Israeli Bar Association, I am concerned by calls against the state prosecutor by the public and in the media," Barzilai said. Under the circumstances, and in order to strengthen the state prosecutor's office, "there's no escaping the creation of an external investigative commission with independent powers," to examine the the former prime minister's prosecution and the decision-making process in legal proceedings against him.
