Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei posted in a tweet Monday afternoon that he met with "Russian President Vladimir Putin and his entourage."
Putin is in Iran to attend a summit of gas exporting countries, his aide, Yuri Ushakov, told reporters, in a sign of warming ties between Moscow and Tehran.
The visit is Putin's first to Iran since 2007 and he is also expected to hold talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Ushakov told reporters.
