Livni decries violence against women

Opposition leader Tzipi Livni spoke Thursday of social responsibility at a WIZO event in honor of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
"Murder of women tears us apart- from different denominations and different sectors. I want us to be unified, not only around the problems, but also around the solutions," she said.
Livni took aim at what she perceives to be an increasing subjugation of women within religious communities. "We know the preliminary signs [of violence against women]," she went on, "when people say that women are not allowed to sing, when they tell women to leave their army unit because a man is arriving... when they tell women to get on the bus through the back door, when they tell women how to dress because it might offend someone, when there are no female representatives in the rabbinical courts."
