Police in Safed arrested a man Saturday on suspicion of breaking into a home and attempting to rape an 18-year-old woman at night while she slept.

Police were alerted to the incident by the woman's father, and arrived to search the area for the suspect. Within minutes, a 20-year-old local resident was found in a park nearby, and arrested.

The suspect allegedly resisted arrest, striking an officer in the face before being handcuffed.

"He broke into the apartment by sneaking into the window," police said. "He entered the woman's room and lay on her. She woke up and screamed, causing him to scape," police added.

Police said findings from the apartment were found linking the suspect to the incident.
