Mikhail Khodorkovsky to face verdict in fraud case in Russi

A Russian judge on Monday was expected to begin reading the verdict in jailed former tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky's second trial, which has improved as a reflection of the Kremlin's efforts to bring about reform ahead of the 2012 vote, Reuters reported.

Khodorkovsky, who was once Russia's richest man, is approaching the end of an eight-year prison sentence imposed upon him in a fraud and tax-evasion trial that molded Vladimir Putin's 2000-2008 presidency, according to Reuters.

The verdict as well as the sentence, which many believe will be decided in the Kremlin, will be widely viewed as a sign of whether President Dmitry Medvedev has the will and power to release a man "whose imprisonment is a symbol of Putin's rule," stated Reuters.
