Some 1,690 African migrants and refugees crossed into Israel through the Egyptian border in July, the Immigration and Population Authority said Sunday, calling the number a new record for the year. Over 135 crossed just Saturday night, according to Israel Radio. According to officials, the average number of people crossing the border in a month is around 600.
