Top US defense officials and analysts close to the Pentagon cast doubts over whether Israel has the military capacity to carry out an effective strike against Iran's nuclear facilities, according to a New York Times report on Sunday.

“All the pundits who talk about ‘Oh, yeah, bomb Iran,’ it ain’t going to be that easy,” said Lt. Gen. David A. Deptula, who oversaw the US air strikes in 2001 in Afghanistan and in the 1991 Gulf War.

The report called attention to likely fueling complications the IAF would face due to the 2,000 mile round trip its jets would need to travel to carry out the mission. It also mentioned the difficulty of effectively destroying the Fordo facility which built into a mountain and the Natanz facility, believed to be located beneath 30 feet of reinforced concrete.
