Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin on Monday spoke at a ceremony in memory of the 44 people who lost their lives in the Carmel Fire, saying that Israel was ready for any enemy but "neglected one front for 63 years"

Rivlin stated that Israel's firefighting services had been insufficient to deal with the blaze because of negligence.

"The State of Israel was caught unprepared with a faulty firefighting service," Rivlin stated.

Rivlin said that Israel must work to reform the firefighting service so that such a tragedy does not occur again.
