Security officials on Thursday said that attacks from the Gaza Strip onto Israel soil in recent days marks a large increase in activity, Israel Radio reported.

The attacks have come in the form of phosphorus shells, which are like the ones fired during Operation Cast Lead. Officials suspect that Hamas and Islamic Jihad are not interested in an escalation of violence in the region, instead see the renewal of peace talks and the holiday period as a window of opportunity for activity.
