Suicide bomber kills 5 in eastern Pakistan

LAHORE, Pakistan  — Police said a suicide bombing has killed at least five people near a march by minority Shiite Muslims in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore. At least 25 people were wounded.
Senior police official Aslam Tareen said thousands of Shi'ite worshipers were marking the end of the holy month of Muharram when the blast hit their procession Tuesday.
Footage from the scene showed ambulances trying to reach the area and men carrying away victims. One young man whose arm was apparently hurt howled in pain as he was placed on a stretcher.
Pakistan has faced numerous bombings in recent years, many of them linked to al-Qaida and the Taliban. At the same time, sectarian violence also has persisted in this Sunni Muslim-majority country.
