Superstar singer Kobi Peretz sentenced to 2 years prison for tax evasion

The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court sentenced Israeli superstar singer Kobi Peretz to two years in prison on Monday for a March tax evasion conviction.
Peretz was also given three years probation and was fined NIS 175,000.
The singer was originally ordered to present himself for imprisonment on June 13, however, his attorneys request to delay the start of his sentence was granted by the court on condition that he post bail.
Prosecutors had sought a harsher sentence for Peretz of four years imprisonment. In the decision, the judges noted his contribution to society through charity, but added that he had been driven by greed to willfully avoid paying his taxes.
Peretz was convicted of having failed to declare some NIS 5.8 million in earnings between the years of 2005-2009.
