US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head by a lone gunman in Tucson, Arizona, where she was holding a public event on Saturday, US National Public Radio reported.

According to the report, at least nine others were shot by the gunman, including members of her staff. Giffords was taken to University Medical Center in Tucson. Information on her condition was not available.
