WASHINGTON - The United States and its allies conducted 20 air strikes against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria on Tuesday, a US military statement said.

In Iraq, Islamic State targets were hit in 18 strikes using various types of aircraft, including seven near Tuz, the statement, which was issued on Wednesday, said.

Two strikes were carried out in Syria using drones, it added.
