The Finance and Communications Ministries decided Wednesday to adhere to the September 1 introduction of the number portability program, opting not to grant the telephone companies the three-month extension permitted by law. Telephone companies Bezeq and HOT, as well as the cellular providers, will have to allow customers who so desire to keep their phone numbers when they switch service providers. The companies have said they need until mid-2007 to be ready for the change and were hoping for at least the delay until December. It is widely expected they will appeal the decision.
