Clinton on Israel: "More than policy, it's personal"
Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton voiced her strong support for Israel, telling the Jewish Federation of Greater des Moines on Monday, "More than policy, it's personal."
Clinton, fighting a hoarse voice said, "I've had the great experience of visiting Israel many times, of making friends with so many of the leaders and activists, who have built Israel and have continued to fight and defend it." Se added, "And I have been in the middle of the raucous debate that Israeli democracy represents, and it is for me, a very deep connection."
The Des Moines Register, the largest newspaper in the state that will cast the first votes for US presidential nominees, gave its coveted endorsement on Saturday to Clinton.
The newspaper's board said it was impressed by Clinton's "knowledge and experience."
While the endorsements from the newspaper have the potential to boost a candidate, they often do not predict success in Iowa's distinctive, time-consuming caucus system of picking nominees, which involves voters meeting in public places to discuss their preferences.
