Italian MP to Edelstein: Terror striking Israel now, but US and Europe could be next
Cicchitto and the delegation are trying to convince Europe and the US of the real threat of terror like in Israel.

The West could face the threat of terrorism as much as Israel does, Italian Foreign Affairs Commission president Fabrizio Cicchitto told Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein Monday.Cicchitto, leading a delegation of Italian parliamentarians who sit on the Foreign Affairs Commission, said he was “trying to convince the US and the European community that we all may be exposed to the threat of terror just like Israel.”“We are trying to isolate the Hamas leadership in the international community and give [Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas] a significant role in the current situation,” Cicchitto said.The Italian lawmaker posited that the current situation could not be solved militarily, saying diplomatic steps were necessary.Edelstein opened the meeting by calling for the international community to make sure humanitarian aid to Gaza was actually used for humanitarian ends.“The tunnels of death were, unfortunately, built well and teach us that cement that was sent to Gaza was not being used to build schools and preschools,” he said.The Knesset speaker said it was clear that many in Gaza were suffering and they should be sent food, medicines, diapers and other things they need.“I certainly feel great sadness, but the civilians who were hit in Gaza were injured by Hamas, who used them as human shields against Israel,” Edelstein said.Cicchitto said it was clear that Gaza’s situation had deteriorated since Hamas took over the area, and he was aware that Hamas attacks on Israel came from populated areas, further complicating the situation.“It is clear that Israel could not respond to the missiles being shot and the threat of tunnels without harming civilians,” he observed.“Despite Israel’s efforts to prevent civilian casualties, they had a negative influence on the media.”
