A Palestinian man whose nearly 20-year battle for citizenship was complicated by allegations of terrorist ties became a US citizen.
Aiad Barakat, 45, who was naturalized on Wednesday, was detained in 1987, along with six other Palestinians and a Kenyan in a case that became known as the "LA Eight."
The government claimed but never charged them with raising money for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
