Russia warns against US attack on Iran

The chief of Russia's Security Council issued Moscow's latest warning Thursday against a US attack on Iran, saying that the use of military force could have broadly devastating effects, Russian news agencies reported. "We believe any military action in Iran could lead to consequences that could seriously detonate the situation in the region and beyond its boundaries," the reports quoted Russian Security Council secretary Igor Ivanov as saying. In the UN Security Council, veto-wielding permanent member Russia "will actively campaign for a ... decision that would offer political ways to ease the tensions," the Interfax news agency quoted Ivanov as saying.
